Turnovers costly in Women’s Basketball loss at La Roche

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's basketball lost a 99-61 AMCC contest to league-leading La Roche University on the road Wednesday.

The Redhawks (12-4 overall) remain unbeaten in conference play with a 9-0 record while the Celtics fell to 7-6 overall and 6-3 in the AMCC.

Emiley Hillgartner was the only Carlow player to score in double figures with 12 points. Shaelyn Clark dished out five assists and two steals.

La Roche jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter before a trey from Hillgartner cut the Redhawks' lead to five.

The Redhawks went on an 18-4 run in the second quarter that spanned over seven minutes to take a 25-point advantage into halftime. La Roche outscored Carlow 26-13 in the third quarter to push its lead to 38.

Carlow battled until the end as both teams scored 23 points apiece in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late for the Celtics.

The Redhawks landed 11 treys and shot 53.3 percent (40 for 75) from the field on the night.

La Roche outrebounded the Celtics, 39-29, and forced Carlow to commit 24 turnovers that resulted in 31 points. The Redhawks outscored Carlow 54-24 in the paint.

Jazmine Dunn led La Roche with a game-high 20 points and teammate Machia Hairston recorded a double-double 17 points and 14 boards. Two other La Roche players contributed double figures in the win.

Carlow hits the road to face Wells (N.Y.) College Saturday.
