Pioneers Win Big in Season Opener

The Alfred State Men's Soccer team won today's season opener 5-0 against Valley Forge. The Pioneers were dominant from the start, scoring early and often.

The Blue & Gold tallied 20 total shots, and on the 5 total goals, 4 of them came with assists. On the defensive half, Alfred State was unbreakable. The Pioneers only allowed 2 shots in the game, neither were on goal.

The first and second scores of the game came from Garrett Potts in the first 90 seconds of the match. The Pioneers tallied another goal in the first half from a fast-break conversion from Potts. Ali Mata-Ruiz assisted on the goal. 

In the second half, Alfred State continued to pile on. Ali Mata-Ruiz added to his production with a goal of his own. In the 57th minute, Ruiz knocked one past the Valley Forge keeper. Andy Sanchez scored the 4th and 5th goals of te day for Alfred State in the 78th and 80th minutes.

The Pioneers look to build on a flawless start to the season tomorrow against Gaulladet at 3 p.m.
