Women’s Basketball falls to Mount Aloysius on Senior Day

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's basketball lost a 73-53 AMCC contest to Mount Aloysius College at Donahue Pavilion Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the game, the Celtics celebrated six seniors for Senior Day.

The Mounties (10-11, 7-7 AMCC) shot 50.9 percent (28 for 55) from the field compared to Carlow's 25.8 percent (17 for 66); however, the Celtics (11-9, 8-6 AMCC) forced Mount Aloysius to commit 31 turnovers on the day.

Sydney Carr led the Celtics with 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block. Emiley Hillgartner added 10 points and four steals in the effort.

Mount Aloysius jumped out to a 10-2 advantage midway through the first quarter, leading the Celtics by 11 points heading into the second.

Carlow went on a 7-0 run to start the second quarter, cutting the Mounties' lead to four. The Celtics came within a point of tying the game several times throughout the quarter, but Mount Aloysius maintained its lead to head into the locker room at halftime ahead, 36-28.

The Mounties went on an 11-2 run to extend their lead to 15 midway through the third quarter and continued to push until the end of the game to win by 20.

The Mounties outrebounded Carlow 44-33 and outscored the Celtics 40-10 in the paint and 15-9 off the bench.

Molly Kosmack led the Mounties with a double-double, game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. She had five assists, four blocks and a steal on the day. Angelina Kohlwaies added a double-double of her own with 10 points and 12 boards, and three other Mounties recorded double figures in the win.

Carlow hosts Penn State Altoona for a 5:30 p.m. AMCC game Feb. 7.
