Team effort in Women’s Basketball win over Grace Christian

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's basketball defeated Grace Christan (Mich.) University 68-43 in nonconference action at Donahue Pavilion Monday night.

The Celtics improved to 10-8 overall while the Lions fell to 1-14 on the season.

Sydney Carr led the Celtics with 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a steal. Emma Aubrey added 12 points on four treys with two steals, and Emiley Hillgartner contributed eight assists and four steals. Nearly every Celtic who saw playing time scored at least one basket in the win.

Carlow sank 10 three-pointers and scored 25 points off 21 Grace Christian turnovers on the night.

The Celtics held Grace Christian to nine points in the first quarter and outscored the Lions 18-11 in the second to take a 33-19 advantage into halftime.

Carlow pushed its lead to 19 in the third quarter and went on an 11-3 run to start the fourth to put the game even further out of reach for the Lions.

Both teams pulled down 45 rebounds, and the Celtics outscored the Lions 22-3 off the bench.

Lily Helmuth led Grace Christian with a double-double, game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jada Reese added 13 points and three blocks in the effort.

Carlow hosts Pitt Greensburg for a 7 p.m. AMCC game Jan. 31.
