Second half scoring puts Mount Aloysius ahead of Women’s Soccer in AMCC action

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer lost a 3-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference home match to Mount Aloysius College at Highmark Stadium Tuesday.

The loss dropped the Celtics to 0-5-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference action.

Carlow started off with the lead when Eve Hornick wrangled a ball from the Mounties defender just inside the 18 and scored a wide open goal in the lower left corner of the net.

Hornick's goal at 29' was short-lived, as Mount Aloysius (3-4-2, 2-0 AMCC) evened the match with a header off the corner kick at 37'.

Goalkeeper Lyndsey Szekely made a nice stop in the 43rd minute to keep the Mounties off the board as the teams headed into halftime tied, 1-1.

Mount Aloysius returned from halftime and immediately applied pressure to the Celtics' defense.

Second half goalkeeper Rebecca Crawford saw the Mounties' second header off a corner kick at 53', but was able to make the save off her gloved fingertips.

Mount Aloysius saw another opportunity at 57' with Crawford coming out to make the play, but defender Chloe Keller managed to sneak behind the attackers and boot the ball away from the goal line for the save.

Mount Aloysius' Grace O'Berry took a sharply-angled shot that ricocheted off the post in the 67th minute, but the Mounties were far from done.

Another corner kick afforded Mount Aloysius the game-winning goal. The ball was tipped away but landed right at the foot of Jessie Forrest, who buried it in the back of the net to put the Mounties ahead, 2-1, in the 74th minute.

Mount Aloysius scored its third and final goal at 82' when Katie Figinski dished it to O'Berry just outside the 18.

The Mounties out-shot the Celtics, 18-12 (8-5 on goal), with Hornick and Tianna Torles recording two shots on goal apiece. Mount Aloysius held a 7-2 corner kick advantage.

Crawford was tabbed with the loss after giving up the go-ahead goal in the second half. She made three saves on the evening.

The Celtics return to action with an AMCC game at Pitt Bradford Saturday.
