Alfred State Begins Season with Tie

The Alfred State women's soccer team opened the season tonight with a game against cross-county rival Houghton. The 7 p.m. match ended in a  for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers fell behind early, with a Highlander goal coming from Karryne Mims in the 10th minute. The Pioneers defense stiffened after the goal, not allowing a Houghton score the rest of the half. 

Erin Drewiega scored the equalizer for Alfred State in the second half. The Pioneer goal came in the 57th minute with the help of a Madigan Harris assist. Harris' assist was the first point of her college career. 

Sierra Schofield saved 7 shots in the net for the Blue & Gold, keeping them in the game even while being out-shot.

The Pioneers continue their new campaign against Allegheny on September 6th.
