Women’s Basketball suffers slow second half against La Roche

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's basketball lost a 90-48 AMCC contest to La Roche University at Donahue Pavilion Wednesday night.

The Redhawks remain unbeaten in conference action, extending their winning streak to 12 games and 19-4 overall. The Celtics fell to 12-11 overall and 9-8 in AMCC action.

Sydney Carr led the Celtics with 18 points, three assists, two steals and a block. Brianna Evans recorded a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two steals, and Emari Stinnette added 10 points in the effort.

La Roche jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but a jumper from Carr tied it up at 8-all midway through the first quarter. The Celtics tied the score again at 10, but La Roche went on a 12-2 run that spanned from the end of the first quarter into the second to lead, 24-13.

A three-pointer from Carr cut the Redhawks' lead to eight and set off a run for the Celtics that saw them outscore La Roche 14-8 the remainder of the half to trail by five heading into halftime.

The Celtics kept it close to start the third quarter, but the Redhawks outscored Carlow 23-7 to take a 24-point lead into the fourth. La Roche held Carlow to just nine points in the fourth quarter and tacked on 27 to run away with the game.

The Redhawks shot 56.1 percent (37 for 66) from the field on the night and outrebounded the Celtics 42-30. La Roche scored 30 points off 21 Carlow turnovers, outscoring the Celtics 60-22 in the paint and 17-7 off the bench.

Dasja Anderson tallied a game-high 23 points, and Makayla Abram and Machia Hairston added 17 points apiece to lead the Redhawks.

The Celtics conclude regular season play with a 2 p.m. AMCC game at Alfred State College Feb. 17.
