Pioneers Drop Two in Florida

NAPLES, FL - The Alfred State Softball dropped two games today, dropping to 3-5 on the season. The Pioneers lost to Wisconsin Superior 12-1 and Westfield State 4-1.

In Game 1:

Alfred State got on the scoreboard first to open the game off an Abby Beidel RBI single which plated Lauryn Engle for the score. However, the Yellowjackets responded with five runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead before continuing with seven more runs in the fourth inning and run ruled the Pioneers for the win. Caley Larsen and Beidel each had a hit in the game.

In Game 2:

Breena Komarnisky got the ball on the mound for the Pioneers, striking out two while only giving up four earned runs. The Pioneers struggled to grab hits against the Owls, but Audrey Farrell, Tiante Murray, and Lauryn Engle each had one. Alfred State was walked six times at the plate, but that was not enough to connect on the scoreboard. Westfield State opened play with two quick runs in the first inning, but the Pioneers would respond in the bottom of the third with an unearned score from Abby Beidel off a passed ball. The next two innings were a defensive duel to keep both teams from scoring. The Owls, with a 2-1 lead, opened scoring back up off a Lummus triple to center field that brought in Moreton and Mike for two runs. With a comeback on the line, Farrell singled to left field to get on the bag which was immediately followed by Murray walk, however the Pioneers were unable to bring them in and the Owls would close the game 4-1.
