Men's Volleyball: Bison swept by Terriers

BETHANY, W.Va. -  Bethany College men's volleyball played their last home match that will count towards their record against Hiram College Tuesday evening. The Bison fell in three sets to the Terriers.

THE MATCHUP

Hiram 3, Bethany 0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-11)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hiram was the first team to hit the double digit mark when they took a 10-4 lead over Bethany.
  • The Terriers didn't make a single error on the floor in the first set. The only two errors Hiram made came from the service line.
  • The lack of errors found the Bison down early and couldn't make a comeback. They lost the first set 25-7.
  • The first set did see some positive moves from the Bison. Four of Bethany's five first set kills came from the arm of James Lucht. He had a nice day finishing the match hitting positive with nine total kills.
  • The second set started out more competitive. The Bison were able to slug a few extra balls over the net and the Terriers made a few early errors to see a 9-6 score  with Bethany's serve. Some nice play at the net by McKay Ginez and Tyler Johnson forced the Terriers to continue off of blocks.
  • Hiram continued to play well after being blocked at the net as Bethany was not able to find the floor throughout the entire game off a block.
  • Bethany had their longest streak of the game with three consecutive points down 22-9. However the Terriers kept it cool and quickly iced set two 25-12.
  • Hiram's third set was very similar to the second. Their play saw three consecutive sets with at least 10 kills. Leonardo Locatelli was the Bison's leading defenseman with six digs, but it was not enough to prevent the Terriers from leaving with a win.
  • Bethany dropped the third set 25-11.

BISON LEADERS

  • Lucht led the Bison with nine kills.
  • Locatelli's six digs led the team.
  • Ginez (3) and Johnson (2) were the only other scorers on the day.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Bison will begin a long road stretch at Illinois Wesleyan on March 2nd. Their first match of the tri-meet will be against North Park at 3pm. Their second match against Illinois Wesleyan will follow.
