Late Rally Was Not Enough Against Pacific Lutheran

Tacoma, WA- The Alfred State baseball team drops today's matchup against Pacific Lutheran 10-5. The Pioneers fall to 4-8 on the season.

The Pios threw five arms, with Ryan Kinney getting the start and suffering his first loss of the season.

At the plate, Elijah Barinas led the way going 2-4 at the plate, with two RBIs and a stolen base. Jack Curabba went 1-4 notching two RBIs as well.

The Lutes got on the board first, scoring two in the first, the Pioneers answered with one run in the third to cut down the lead. Anthony Snyder tallied a leadoff walk. Then a sacrifice bunt from Devin Mersmann moved Snyder into scoring position. Two batters later, Barinas notched an RBI single up the middle to make it a 2-1 game.

PLU expanded their lead to 5-1 in the fourth before ASC scored a run in the fifth. Mersmann led off with a single to right field. Three batters later, Tyler Korsky notched a single to put runners on the corners. Then Curabba followed with an RBI single to right field to make it a 5-2 game.  

The Lutes added five more runs to their lead over the next three innings, for a 10-2 lead. The Pioneers tried to make a late rally in the ninth as they scored three runs. Cole Schraufstetter and Tyler Petery got walked to lead off the inning. After a change of pitchers, Barinas notched an RBI single to right field. Then with runners on the corners, Korsky got an RBI from a groundout to make it a 10-4 game. Barinas would advance on a wild pitch, before Curabba tallied an RBI as Barinas scored. The Pioneers could not get any closer as the fall to Pacific Lutheran.
