Pioneers Dropped Series Against The Loggers

Tacoma, WA- The Alfred State baseball team drops game three of the series against Puget Sound, 6-5. The Pioneers drop to 4-7 on the season.

Christopher Mattoon got the start and pitched 6.1 innings scattering four runs over eight hits, with two strikeouts. Chris Baldwin came in relief and tallied a strikeout in 0.2 innings.

Elijah Barinas had a good day as he went 2-4 at the plate with two stolen bases. Jack Curabba went 1-4 with two RBIs, while Tyler Korsky went 3-5 with an RBI and stolen base.

The Pios got on the board first with a run in the top of the 1st. Barinas led off with a single and advanced on a groundout. Then an RBI single to center gave ASC the 1-0 lead.

The Loggers rallied to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first. After a couple scoreless innings, the Pioneers answered in the top of the fifth with two runs to tie the game. With one out, Barinas got walked and stole second a few pitches later. Two batters later, Korsky singled to left and stole second on the next pitch. With two runners in scoring position, Curabba stepped to the plate and notched a two RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.

In their next at-bat, the Pios regained the lead with a run in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Aiden Murphy got hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball. Then, Devin Mersmann notched an RBI single to take a 4-3 lead.

The Logger would go on to score one in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and two in the bottom of the eighth to take a 6-4 lead. Alfred was able to get one run across in the top of the ninth but fell short.
