Men’s Volleyball swept by Saint Vincent in AMCC action

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's volleyball lost a 3-0 AMCC home contest to Saint Vincent College Wednesday night.

The Bearcats (12-7, 4-0 AMCC) defeated the Celtics (2-11, 0-3 AMCC), 25-14, 25-12 and 25-14.

Saint Vincent held Carlow to single digit kills through all three sets and hit .324 on the night.

Will Piccolino led the Celtics with a game-high 12 kills, James Stone added 21 assists and Russ Cyprowski tallied Carlow's lone service ace.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 6-2 lead to start the first set before a kill from Cyprowski and an error saw the Celtics trailing by two.

Carlow kept it close before a 7-1 run made it 16-8 in favor of the Bearcats. With the Celtics trailing 18-12. Saint Vincent put together a 6-1 run to make it set point at 24-13. Although Carlow produced a kill to keep the game going, the Bearcats ended the first set with a kill of their own.

The Celtics started with a 2-1 advantage in the second set, but Saint Vincent quickly gained another 6-2 lead after three kills and back-to-back aces.

Carlow cut the Bearcats' lead to 9-6 as Saint Vincent continued to stay a step ahead of the Celtics. Saint Vincent strung together a 7-2 run to gain a substantial 20-9 lead en route to a decisive 25-12 win in the second set.

The Bearcats led 7-2 in the third set before an ace, a kill and a Saint Vincent attack error saw the Celtics trailing by two. A 5-0 run put Saint Vincent ahead 13-6, and despite Carlow chipping away, the Bearcats led 23-10 toward the end of the set.

Back-to-back errors by the Bearcats and a solo block from Caio Matos Machado put Carlow down 23-13, but the Bearcats finished the set and the match 25-14.

Nearly every Saint Vincent athlete landed a kill, and Zach Wyant recorded three of the Bearcats' eight aces on the night. The Bearcats tallied 11 blocks on the night.
