Pioneers Dropped Two Against The Mounties

Cresson, PA- Alfred State Baseball dropped today's conference opener doubleheader against Mt. Aloysius. The Pioneers fell in the first game 3-2, then fell in game two 10-8. The Pioneers fall to 5-15 on the season.

In game one, Ryan Bailey got the start on the mound and pitched 6.0 innings scattering three runs over 10 hits, with six strikeouts and one walk. Both Caleb Walker and Connor Kiefer went 1-3 at the plate, with Walker notching a double.

The Mounties got on the board first with a run in the first. The Pioneers answered with a run of their own in the second then took the lead with a run in the third. In the top of the second with one out Joshua Gardener got walked. Walker would follow with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Two batters later, Anthony Snyder got hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Pioneers would score on an error to tie the game at 1-1. After holding the Mounties scoreless, they took the lead with a run in the third. Tyler Petery got walked to lead off the inning. He would advance and score on a wild pitch in the next few plays to take a 2-1 lead. The Mounties would hold the Pioneers scoreless the rest of the game as they scored two runs to take the win.

In game two, Tyler Korsky led the way going 2-5 with both hits being round trippers for three RBIs. Aidan Murphy also had a good day, going for three RBIs and a double. Elijah Barinas tallied two stolen bases as well.

After a scoreless first inning, the Pioneers struck first with two runs in the top of the second. Korsky led off with a solo home run. Jack Curabba followed with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Bobby Sellers followed with a single to put runners on the corners. An RBI sacrifice fly from Murphy made it a 2-0 game.

The Mounties answered with six runs in the third and one in the fourth to take the 7-2 lead. Alfred State scored one in the sixth and one in the seventh before scoring two in the eighth and ninth. In the sixth, Sellers notched a one out single then advanced to third on a wild pitch. After two walks loaded the bases, Sellers would score on an RBI fielders' choice by Devin Mersmann. In the seventh. The Pioneers tallied three straight walks with one out. Then Murphy would get an RBI from being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

In the eighth, with two outs Barinas singled to right field and stole second a few pitches later. Then on the next pitch, Korsky would lift one out of the park to cut the lead down to 9-6. Then in the ninth, with one out Sellers got walked, and Murphy would come through with an RBI double to cut the lead back down to three, 10-7. After a change of pitchers, Mersmann reached on an error and Parker Drees who pinch ran for Murphy came around to score. The Pioneers could not get any closer as they fell 10-8.
