Softball Defeats Crown and Falls to Emerson

NAPLES, FL – The Alfred State softball team split on the final day of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. The Pioneers run ruled Crown 17-5 before dropping a game to Emerson 13-3 as they go to 4-6 on the season.  

Game 1:

Breena Komarnisky got the win for the Pioneers and pitched five innings and notched five strikeouts. Adriana Duval finished 3-for-3 on the day, with one RBI and a double while Caley Larsen recorded an impressive 5 RBI and a triple. Nine Pioneers scored at least one run, with nine of those runs being in the second inning. Alfred State was able to put a run up in all five innings and only allowed the Polars to score in just two innings. Lauryn Engle recorded a double and three hits in her four at-bats.

 

Game 2:

The Pioneers scoring came to a halt in game 2 of the day against the Lions. With 23 at-bats, Alfred State was able to grab just five hits. Scoring began for the Pioneers in the sixth inning, when Breena Komarnisky was walked with bases loaded, plating Adriana Duval for the score. Audrey Farrell led the team with two hits, of her three at-bats, and recorded an RBI single for a McKinlee Harris score. The Lions were able to run off with a 5-0 score going into the sixth inning which spearheaded the momentum for an additional eight runs in the top of the sixth. Abigail Marinelli, Caley Larsen, and Lauryn Engle each had a hit for the Pioneers.
