Men’s Volleyball falls to Hiram in final match of the season

HIRAM, Ohio --- Carlow University men's volleyball concluded its regular season with a 3-0 loss to Hiram College on the road Wednesday.

The Celtics (3-18, 0-10 AMCC) battled to a win-by-two situation in the third set, but the Terriers (17-11, 7-1 AMCC) secured the sweep.

Will Piccolino led all players with seven kills, and Russ Cyprowski added six kills and eight digs. James Stone tallied 17 assists, and Gavin McLain picked up two solo blocks in the effort.

The Terriers jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set and outscored Carlow 14-6 to lead, 21-9, enroute to a 25-11 first set victory.

Kills from Piccolino and Joshua Lee gave Carlow an early lead in the second set, but it was short-lived as Hiram went on a 9-3 run to lead 13-6. The Celtics battled for several points, but Hiram came out on top with the 25-16 victory.

The Celtics refused to fold in the final set, taking it to a win-by-two situation. Trailing 20-16, Carlow went on an 8-4 run to tie the game at 24-all.

The Terriers called a timeout to regroup and scored back-to-back kills to end the game, 26-24, and the match in their favor.

Every Hiram player contributed to the win, tallying eight services aces and five blocks on the day.
