ALFRED, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford baseball team finished its season off with a sweep over Alfred State, 6-5 and 6-2.
Leading the offense for the Panthers in game one was freshman Dalton Renn (Hallam/Eastern York) who went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Game one was a tale of two innings as the game started out as a pitchers' duel with neither team able to score through the first four innings.
Alfred State scored the first runs of the game as they put up five runs in the bottom of the fifth off of four hits to take a 5-0 lead over the Panthers.
Pitt-Bradford couldn't get anything going in game one until their last at bats of the game where they put together six runs with RBIs from Renn, junior Bobby Sorokas (Plains/Coughlin), senior Kody Johnston (Homerville, GA/Clinch County) and senior Connor Borowski (Bradford/Bradford) to take a one run lead going into the bottom of the seventh up 6-5.
Freshman Ryan Northcott (Cochranton/Cochranton) came in for the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh and sealed the game as they took game one, 6-5.
Game two started out much like game one with neither team getting out to a strong start on offense.
Alfred State struck first again with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to give them an early 1-0 lead.
The Panthers came back with one of their own in the top of the fifth on a Borowski sacrifice fly to even up the score at 1-1.
The Pitt-Bradford defense gave the lead right back after a wild pitch gave Alfred State a 2-1 advantage.
The game was broken open in the top of the sixth when the Panthers put together four runs on two hits with RBIs from freshman Brock Blovsky (Olean, N.Y./Olean), freshman Alexx Tyger (St. Marys/St. Marys) and senior Ethan Showers (Hughesville/Hughesville) to give the Panthers a 5-2 lead.
Pitt-Bradford went on to hold off Alfred State as the Panthers go out with a win, 5-2.
Pitt-Bradford head coach Bret Butler said, "I can't say enough good things about today's wins. It was a great way for our seniors to go out. They played the game the way it is supposed to be played, hard and with respect. This team received many compliments from opposing coaches for their scrappiness and never say die attitude, and also received many unsolicited compliments from various people in airports, restaurants, etc. That makes me extremely proud. I love these guys. They taught our youngsters how to play the game, and it will pay dividends in the future."
The Panthers end their season with an overall record of 10-18-1.
