Redhawks Run Away from Panthers

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team struggled to keep up with 1st Place LaRoche as they fell 82-48 to the Redhawks on Monday night.

Game Notes:

  • The game got off to a bright start for the Panthers as they were able to force a turnover on a Shaelyn Snipes steal and rush down to convert a jump shot after an offensive rebound from Shirleah Ragin. The success did not last long as LaRoche immediately answered with a three from the top of the key to start a 10-0 run.
  • Pitt-Bradford did work their way back into the game with a 6 point rally of their own. Ragin hit a mid-range jumper and after an offensive foul, Taylor Sutryk hit a jump shot of her own on a feed from Ragin. Jasmin miller cut the lead to two on a layup, however, LaRoche would again score 8 unanswered to reopen a 10 point lead.
  • The Panthers were able to get the lead back into single digits just after the break. After LaRoche opened the quarter with a basket, Sutryk hit another jump shot and Ragin converted following a defensive stop to cut the lead to 8.
  • The Redhawks quickly pushed their lead to as many as 16 points, however, a 6-0 run got the Panthers to within 10. Snipes started the rally with a three-pointer from the wing and then added two free throws a minute later. Ragin would chip in another free throw to close the rally. The Panthers looked to head to the locker room down 10 points, but, LaRoche was able to hit a three at the buzzer to go up 13 at the break. 
  • Following halftime, Pitt-Bradford was able to stay with the Redhawks through 3 and a half minutes of play. They were able to respond to each LaRoche basket early on but went cold midway through the 3rd. They were held scoreless for the final 6:41 as LaRoche opened up a 19 point lead. 
  • Jenna Hicks ended the scoreless drought with a three-point play to open the quarter, however, the Redhawks would continue to increase their lead throughout the remainder of play, finishing with a 34 point victory.

Leaders:

  • The Panthers had a balanced offensive attack as 3 players scored 10 points and 2 others added 8.
  • Jasmin Miller, Shaelyn Snipes and Taylor Sutryk all scored 10 points in the contest.
  • Miller also added 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
  • Jenna Hicks finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds
  • Shirleah Ragin had 8 points as well and also dished out 5 of the Panthers 8 assists.

The Panthers record falls to 2-14 with the loss, including a 2-9 record against AMCC opponents. They will look to get back on track on Wednesday, as they travel to Alfred State. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
