Panther Rally Comes Up Short Against Keuka

Keuka Park, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team saw their 2nd half comeback attempt at Keuka come up short, as they lost to the Wolves 79-63.

  • The Panthers saw their hosts get off to a hot start, as they were able to make 4 three-pointers in a row to begin the game. This continued over the opening 5 minutes as the Panthers were unable to stop the Wolves' offense as they built a 22-9 lead.
  • An Avery Benzel three with 3:07 left in the quarter to cut the lead to just 6 points, but the hosts were able to respond and push their lead back to 31-20 after the first. Cailey Barnett was able to keep the Panthers within shouting distance of Keuka, as she scored 7 points in the quarter on 3-5 from the field.
  • Hannah Lary began the second quarter with a jumper on the opening possession, but Keuka was able to score the next 14 points to extend their advantage to 23 points. Lary hit a driving layup to end the Keuka run.
  • Pitt-Bradford ended the half on a 7-0 run to send the game to the half with a 51-35 score. Barnett made two more field goals in the run while Lary added a layup and Ashley Hall made a free throw.
  • The Panthers continued their rally after the halftime break. Over the opening 7 minutes of the third quarter, Pitt-Bradford outscored the Wolves 17 to 5 to whittle the deficit to just four points. The Panthers got two more layups from both Barnett and Lary while Daizjah Brown and Benzel hit important threes to continue the Panther run. The Wolves shut down the Panthers for the final three minutes of the third, however, as they allowed only three Pitt-Bradford free throws as they extended their lead back to 7-points heading into the final quarter.
  • In the fourth, both teams struggled to score early as neither made a field goal for three and a half minutes. Keuka was able to break the ice, scoring 5 straight to restore the double-digit advantage. The Panthers were unable to regain momentum in the final minutes of the game, as they were held to just 8 points in the final period.

Hannah Lary led the Panthers with 20 points in the game. She also added 5 assists. Cailey Barnett finished just behind Lary, scoring 17 points on 8-18 from the field. Cassidy King finished the game with 6 points but was a key player on the boards for the Panthers as she finished with 17 rebounds.

The Panthers fall to 2-6 on the season after the loss. They will begin their AMCC Conference schedule on Saturday as they will host La Roche University. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
