Men's Soccer Struggles with Mounties, Lose 7-1

Cresson, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team fell to 1-1 in AMCC play on Saturday as they fell 7-1 at Mount Aloysius.

The Panthers showed some promise early, taking three of the first 5 shots in the match, but fell behind in the 13th minute as the hosts were able to score after a few minutes of constant pressure. The hosts continued to dominate possession through the game, and slowly added 3 more goals in the first half, including one in the final minute of the period. 

The Panthers looked to get back into the game after the restart. They were able to counterattack off of a corner kick and quickly work the ball downfield, where they drew a foul in the box for a penalty kick. Brent Kennedy stepped up for the Panthers and saw his effort for a low corner parried away by the Mountie keeper. The Mounties took advantage of the momentum from a saved penalty and added two more within 12 minutes of the restart, the Panthers were able to get one back through Spencer Sklar in the 68th. Sklar took advantage of a misplay by the Mountie goalkeeper, pouncing on the errant pass, and quickly converting it for his first goal of the season. The Panthers saw their hosts add a final goal in the 73rd minute on an arching free kick outside of the penalty area.

Sklar's first goal of the season was unassisted. His effort was the only one of his three that found the target. Chase Rider led the Panthers with 4 shots, putting 3 of them on goal. Brent KEnnedy had 3 shots in the game with 2 of them forcing Mount Aloysius saves. Sihle Sizani made 7 saves in 74 minutes of work. Jared Scarlett played the final 16 minutes without facing a shot on target.

The Panthers are now 3-5-1 on the season, with a 1-1 record in the AMCC. They will return to action next Saturday when the host La Roche for another AMCC matchup.
