Alfred, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team was back in action for the second time in as many days on Sunday, as they swept Alfred State on the road.

Game 1:

The Panthers fell behind early in the opener but were able to battle back, force extra innings, and win the game in 8 by a score of 6-4.

• Pitt-Bradford got out to allow start as they went down in order in the first. They were able to threaten in the 2nd as Lexi Peters singled to start the frame and moved to third after a sacrifice bunt and a Daytona Wentzel hit, but a double steal attempt ended with Peters being thrown out at the plate.
• Starting pitcher Kindra Wessels got off to a strong start, retiring the first 6 batters she faced, but ran into trouble in the 3rd. She started the inning with a leadoff walk and then saw the Pioneers put runners on the corners with 1 out. She got the next batter to hit a shallow popup to center, which fell in front of Chloe Cordova. Cordova was able to field the ball and record a force out at second, but the lead runner was able to score on the fielder's choice.
• The Panthers squandered a leadoff double from Marguerite DeFranco in the 4th, before seeing the Pioneers tack on two more in the bottom half. Wessels issued free passes to the first two batters and after a sacrifice bunt, gave up back-to-back singles to score the runs. Wessels walked the next batter to load the bases, but settled down and got a strikeout and fielded a bunt for the final two outs.
• The Panthers were finally able to get on the board in the 5th. KT Marx led off the inning with a single to right-center and quickly moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a popup in the infield, Wessels helped her own cause, singling to left to bring Marx around.
• The momentum did not stay with the Panthers for long, as after Wessels issued a two-out walk, the Pioneers hit a double to bring the runner all the way around to go ahead 4-1.
• In the 6th, the Panthers exploded offensively, scoring 3 runs to tie the game. Marguerite DeFranco led off the frame with her second double of the day and scored right away when Lexi Peters doubled to left. Following a strikeout, Daytona Wentzel punched a single into right field to bring in Peters and took second on an error in the outfield. That would be important as Marx lined a single into center in the next at-bat, tying things up at 4. 
• Wessels put up two big zeros in the 6th and 7th, stranding a pair of runners on the basepaths in each frame.
• In extras, the Panthers were able to take advantage of the runner placed on third to take the lead right away. Lexi Peters smacked her second double of the day into left field, which brought the placed runner DeFranco around to give the Panthers their first lead of the day. After two groundouts, KT Marx came through with another single to bring in Peters.
• Wessels returned to the circle in the 8th, but quickly worked around the placed runner on second, retiring three batters in short order to shut the door on the game.

Kindra Wessels (4-7) picked up the win after allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits and 6 walks, completing all 8 innings. Lexi Peters and KT Marx both recorded 3- hit games with a pair of RBI, with the only difference on their statline reading 2 runs scored for Peters and one for Marx.

Game 2:

The second game of the double-dip was much different than its predecessor, as the Panthers jumped on the Pioneers immediately and went on to win the game 8-0 in a run-rule shortened contest.

• Pitt-Bradford got off to a good start, as they were able to plate 3 runs in the first. Following two walks to end the inning and a groundout to move them to 2nd and 3rd, Lexi Peters hit a single into center to bring in the opening run. His hit was followed by an infield single from Imani Jackson which brought in McLaughlin. With one out, Paige Wertheimer wrapped up the scoring hitting an RBI groundout back to the pitcher.
• The momentum looked to change in the bottom of the first as the hosts quickly loaded the bases on Panther starter Ashley Stein with a leadoff single and back-to-back walks. The rally was cut short, however, as Stein got the Panthers to line into a 4-3-5 triple play to end the inning.
• The Panthers threatened to tack on in the second as Marx and Cordova each singled to jump ahead, but the Panthers were unable to bring them in as they were retired on a pair of fly balls to left and a 1-out sacrifice bunt.
• Neither team registered a baserunner in the 3rd, but the panters were able to add a 4th in the 4th. Maddie Camp reached on an error to start the inning and moved to second on a Marx groundout. With one out, Cordova singled to center to bring in Camp and put the Panthers up 4-0. Stein set down the Pioneers in order in the 4th before the Pitt Bradford office exploded for three runs on two hits. 
• In the 6th, Peters started the rally with a double to left, and after an error at shortstop, Paige Wertheimer singled down the left-field line to load the bases. Maddie Camp came through with a single, plating two runs, and then scored all the way from first as KT Marx hit a two-run double to left field.
• The Panthers were unable to tack on any more runs, sending Stein back to the circle looking for a final zero to bring the game to an early end. She got the first out following an infield single as the runner tried to advance to second, but was thrown out. The baserunning error would be important as the next hitter singled to center. Stein was able to get the second out on a fielder's choice at second base, and after one final single got a final out on a fielder's choice to bring the game to a close.

Ashley Stein (5-5) picks up her second complete-game shutout. She allowed 4 hits and walked three, but kept the Pioneers off the board. Lexi Peters and KT Marx both finished 2 for 3 in the game, while Chloe Cordova went 2 for 2. Marx drove in a pair of runs, while Peters and Cordova also picked up RBIs. Madison Camp scored two runs and drove in two more in the win.

The Panthers move to 9-19 overall with a 5-5 record in AMCC play. They will take the remainder of the week off for finals before they play their home finale this Friday. They are scheduled to play Penn State-Altoona in a matchup that has already been rescheduled 3 times. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. on Friday the 29th.
