Panthers Fall on the Road at Hilbert

Hamburg, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team lost its midweek contest at Hilbert on Wednesday Night. The Panthers fell behind early and lost the game 74-60.

Game Notes:

  • Pitt-Bradford struggled with a tough Hilbert defense early on, as they were held scoreless for the first 6:41 of play while the Hawks scored the first 11 points of the game. La'Shyra Williams got the Panthers started with back to back jump shots on second-chance opportunities.
  • Following a Jenna Hicks jumper, the Hawks outscored the Panthers 11-2 over the final 2:30 of the quarter to head to the second with a 16 point lead.
  • The second period was a back and forth affair that saw both teams answer their opponents' field goals. Trailing by 17 with 1:43 to go in the half, Williams hit another putback shot and Shirleah Ragin made a mid-range shot on consecutive possessions. The Hawks were able to pull one point back from the free-throw line before halftime to send the game to the break with Hilbert leading 39-25.
  • Hicks got things started in the third, hitting back to back shots for the Panthers to eliminate early Hilbert baskets. Pitt-Bradford was able to cut into the lead further by using an 11-5 run to send the game to the 4th with a 10 point deficit. Shaelyn Snipes hit a layup to start the rally and La'Shyra Williams converted two from the charity stripe to continue it. Ashley Hall immediately erased a Hilbert three with one of her own, and Shirleah Ragin did the same with a basket inside. Hall closed the quarter with another made jumper with 28 seconds to go.
  • The Panthers looked to cut further into the lead in the final quarter but were unable to trim it to single digits. Jasmin Miller and Shirleah Ragin each scored 7 in the quarter.

Leaders:

  • La'Shyra Williams was the Panthers leading scorer in the game, finishing with 16 points. She also grabbed 8 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and blocked 2 shots. She made 5 of 8 from the field and hit all six free throws she attempted.
