Panthers post nine triples in sweep over D’Youville

OLEAN, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford baseball team swept D'Youville College in an AMCC doubleheader that was played at St. Bonaventure University by the scores of 5-1 and 10-1.

Senior Ethan Showers (Hughesville/Hughesville) led the Panthers on offense and went 5-7 on the day with five triples and seven RBIs.

The Panther jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a triple by Showers got Pitt-Bradford on the board early.

D'Youville cut the lead down to one in the top of the fifth after an RBI single to bring the Panthers' lead down to 2-1.

The Panthers scored one more in the fifth on a throwing error by the Spartans' defense and then two runs in the sixth after an RBI sacrifice fly by Sorokas and an RBI triple by freshman Jay Clinger (Edinboro/Northwestern) as Pitt-Bradford took game one, 5-1.

The Panthers answered big in the bottom of the first after a bases loaded triple by Showers highlighted a five run inning for Pitt-Bradford as they led 5-1 after the first inning.

The Panthers continued their excellent offense in the second with back-to-back-to-back triples by senior Kody Johnston (Homerville, GA/Clinch County), senior Connor Borowski (Bradford/Bradford) and Showers to push the Panthers' lead to 8-1 after two innings.

The offense would go cold for both teams as no one would score until the bottom of the seventh when Showers brought home Borowski on an RBI triple and Showers would score on an RBI single by freshman Caleb Bennett as the Panthers completed the sweep against D'Youville, 10-1.
