Rider Scores Two in Panther Loss

Rochester, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford soccer team was back on the road on Saturday, losing their match against Nazareth 6-2.

The Panthers kept the Golden Flyers off the board early, as Sihle Sizani made five saves in the opening 18 minutes of action. The after near-constant early pressure, the hosts were able to open the scoring in the 19th minute. The Panthers were able to settle down after the goal, even earning a few shots and corner kicks, but Nazareth struck again before the break. They doubled their advantage in the 40th minute on a one-time finish-off across.

Nazareth did not wait long after the halftime break, scoring the third goal just 97 seconds into the second half. The Panthers were able to respond quickly, courtesy of Chase Rider. Devin Stowe intercepted a pass along the Nazareth defensive line and quickly turned to unleash a shot. His effort dipped towards the goal but hit the crossbar, where Rider was able to collect the rebound and easily finish for his 4th goal of the year. Stowe was credited with an assist, his first.

The Golden Flyers were able to quickly score three more goals in a ten-minute span before the Panthers finished the day's scoring with a late penalty. In the 85th minute, Morounfoluwa Olorunyomi played a long free-kick into the Nazareth box, where a defender handled the ball, giving the Panthers a Spot kick. Rider stepped up and converted the penalty for his second goal of the day.

Rider scored both goals for the panthers on 3 shots. Jan Winnewisser was also able to put a shot on target, while Olorunyomi, Joe Magro, and Brent Kennedy also recorded shots in the match. Sihle Sizani made 11 saves in the game. Evan Schmidt played the final 15 minutes of the match but was not tested by the hosts.

The Panthers are now 1-3-1 on the season. They will be back at home this week, as the host Elmira on Tuesday, Sept. 14th. They will then begin AMCC competition, as they will host Alfred State on the 18th.
