Men's Soccer Season Comes to Sudden End

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team saw its season come to a sudden end in a 2-0 loss to Alfred State in the quarterfinal round of the AMCC tournament.

The 5th seeded Pioneers got off to a quicker start in the game, as they forced Panther goalkeeper Sihle Sizani into two saves in the opening 7 minutes of play, however, the Panthers were provided the best opportunity to score within the opening 30 minutes of play. In the 24th minute, Chase Rider was taken down in the box and the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick. Rider stepped up to take the penalty but saw his effort saved by the Alfred State goalkeeper. After the saved penalty, the visitors kept the momentum and were able to take a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute.

In the second half of the game, the Panthers had a few good chances to tie the game but were unable to convert. Devin Stowe saw a low shot parried in the 48th minute, and Chase Rider won a header on a corner kick in the 58th but saw his effort saved as well. Brent Kennedy volleyed a long-range effort in the 69th minute but saw it land on top of the net. With the Panthers pressing forward, the visitors were able to add a second with just under 5 minutes left. With Sizani playing further out of the goal in an attempt to generate offense, the Pioneers were able to intercept a pass and quickly counter, sending a long shot into a vacated net to score the second.

Rider led the attack with 3 shots, and put two on goal. Stowe, Allee Williams, and Jan Winnewisser all put efforts on target, while Kennedy and Sklar also had shots in the game. Sizani made 4 saves in the loss.

The Panthers' season ends with a 7-8-1 record, as well as earning their first home playoff game in 10 seasons. Chase Rider finishes his historic season with program records in goals (22), assists (10), and points (54). He will graduate with the 2nd most goals in program history.
