HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mounties took an early lead, 1-0, after the opening inning. The Blue Jays wasted little time striking back, leveling the score in the top of the second. Previty then stepped up with two, outs, recording a hit that enabled Stoddard to come home and tie the game at 1-1.

The bats would fall quiet, as the opposing pitches began to shutdown the opposing offenses. Roberts would pitch a gem of a game, recording five strikeouts while allowing only three this over the next three innings. USJ would reward their pitcher in the top half of the fifth, as senior catcher Kelsie LaHouse (Coventry, Conn.) led off the inning with a single. Previty recorded her second hit of the game in the next at-bat, putting runners on first and second. MAC would try and get out of the inning, recording two straight outs, but freshman outfielder McKenzie Fairfax (Waterbury, Conn.) notched a single, plating LaHouse and giving USJ the 2-1 edge. However, the Mounties would respond in the bottom half of the frame, leveling the score at 2-2 through five innings.

The Blue Jays would fire back in the top half of the sixth, reclaiming a late lead. Freshman catcher Allison Conger (Plainfield, Conn.) started off the inning with a walk, and was brought home two batters later when Roberts notched a deep single, allowing Conger to score and give USJ a 3-2 lead. Previty continued her monstrous day at the plate, ripping a double, bringing home Roberts and increasing the lead to 4-2.
