Panthers Score Late Goal, Fall 4-1 to Elmira

Elmira, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team traveled to Elmira for a non-conference matchup with the Soaring Eagles on Thursday. The Panthers were able to score late but lost the game 4-1.

The Panthers got off to a strong start, as they pushed the hosts, forcing the Elmira keeper into two saves in the opening ten minutes. Carolelyn LaPrairie got the first shot off, while Delaney Stowe took the second. After a Kihara Gotshall shot force another Elmira save the Soaring Eagles were able to capture momentum, as they took the final four shots of the half. Emily Bethel came up big for the Panthers in the first half, making two saves on breakaways.

Jada Luther was able to take a shot after the halftime break, but the hosts continued to push the Panthers, eventually opening the scoring in the 59th minute. Elmira added a second in the 68th, and then put the game away with two goals in a four-minute span.

The Panthers were able to come back and score a late goal to avoid the shutout. Following a Pitt-Bradford corner kick, Stowe was able to collect the ball and lay it off to Katie Anderton. The senior defender had enough room to get a shot off, and she blasted a one-time finish into the net. The goal was Anderton's first of the season, and second of her career. The play also resulted in Stowe's first assist.

Anderton's goal came on her only shot of the day. Alexis Gibbons, Stowe, LaPrairie, and Luther all recorded one shot in the game, while Kihara Gotshall finished with two. All the Panther shots were on goal.  Emily Bethel made 6 saves in the loss.

The Panthers (0-4-1) will open their AMCC conference schedule over the weekend. They will host Alfred State at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday the 18th of September.
