Panthers Unable to Find Rhythm from the Field, Fall to Lions

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team struggled to find their range as they fell to Penn State-Altoona 66-48 on Saturday afternoon.

  • Hannah Lary got the Panthers started with a mid-range jump shot with 8:16 on the clock, but the Panthers were held off the scoreboard for the next three minutes as the Lions built a 7-2 lead. Cailey Barnett made another jump shot to end the scoreless run, but it was followed by a second scoreless streak that finished on a Lary layup with 30 seconds to go in the quarter.
  • Starting the 2nd trailing 11-6, the Panthers scored the first four points of the quarter to get the lead to just one point. Lary made another jumper before Barnett made a pair of free throws to put the Panthers down 11-10.
  • After three straight from the Lions, Cassidy King made a jumper in the lane, but her basket was followed by another two unanswered from Penn State-Altoona. In the final five minutes of the half, the Panthers were outscored 10-5, with Cassidy King making a layup in the final seconds of the quarter to send the game to the halftime break with the Panthers down 28-19.
  • Daizjah Brown came out of halftime firing, scoring on the Panthers' first possession, but saw her bucket followed by 8 straight from the visitors, pushing their advantage to 15. At the 6:35 mark, Avery Benzel made a hook shot in the lane to start a Panther run that would cut the deficit to 5 points. Barnett and Lary added a pair of mid-range baskets which forced a Lion timeout.
  • After the timeout, King added a putback layup to put the Panthers down 38-33. The Lions responded to the run over the final 3 minutes of the quarter as they were able to push the lead back to double digits, allowing only a Barnett jumper and a Ashley Hall three.
  • The Lions built off of their momentum from the end of the third to score the first four points of the final quarter. From there, they answered every Panther basket with one of their own, eventually pushing their lead to as many as 20. Lary made one final layup in the final minute to close the scoring in the game.

Hannah Lary led the way for Pitt-Bradford with 16 points. She made 5-13 from the field and added 6 of 6 from the charity stripe. She also finished with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block. Cailey Barnett also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points. Cassidy King fell just shy of a double-double as she had 8 points and 15 rebounds in the game.
