The AMCC women's basketball Game of the Week features Franciscan University and Pitt-Greensburg, two teams fighting to stay in the playoff race as the season is down to its final three weeks. Sixth-place Franciscan was victorious on their home court when they beat the fifth-place Bobcats 75-65 on January 6. Pitt-Greensburg will be looking to return the favor when they take the hardwood in their own gym Wednesday night, as they look to stay on top of the Barons in the standings as the playoffs draw closer.

The Franciscan women's basketball team is poised to make its second-straight run in the AMCC playoffs. Currently, the Lady Barons hold the No. 6 seed with a 5-7 AMCC record. In the month of January, FUS went 5-4, including five wins over conference opponents. The Lady Barons defeated the previously unbeaten in conference, La Roche College, 76-69 on January 18. Currently, senior guard Iliana Gonzales is fourth in the league with 359 points and recently became the second player in program history to surpass 1,000 points in her career. Senior guard Monica Dawyot is ninth in the league with 40 steals while leading the team with 109 rebounds. Gonzales is right on her heels with 108 rebounds on the year.

Pitt-Greensburg enters Wednesday’s game residing in the AMCC’s #5 spot with an even 6-6 AMCC mark with six games remaining.  The Bobcats have been hot at home, winning five of their six AMCC contests from inside the confines of Chamber’s Hall.  Four double-digit scorers pace the offense led by sophomore forward Sylvia Stuart’s 11.8 point per game average.  Senior guard Emily Nelson, who scored her 1000th point over the weekend, is next averaging 11.7 followed by sophomore guard Kelsey Oddis’s 11.5 and senior guard/forward Chianti Sivek’s 10.5.  Nelson ranks in the AMCC’s top four in assists with 77 and assists per game with 4.3.  Also ranking among the conference’s best are Oddis whose 147 rebounds and 7.7 rebounds per game place her 8thand 7th, respectively, right behind teammate junior forward Casey Hamilton, whose 152 rebounds and eight per game average are good enough for 7th and 6th.  With the win, Pitt-Greensburg can create some much needed separation from the #6 Barons and avenge a 75-65 at Franciscan on January 6, 2016.
