BEHREND SOFTBALL FALLS TO NO. 16 ST. JOHN FISHER

The Penn State Behrend softball team was eliminated from the NCAA Division III Softball Regional on Saturday, falling 1-0 to No. 16 St. John Fisher College.

Junior pitcher Ashleigh Schmidt and Emily Trotman were in a pitcher's duel in game five of the tournament. The teams went through five scoreless innings until the Cardinals got on the board in the top of the sixth. St. John Fisher used two hits to get one run across the plate. The two hits set up the sacrifice fly, sending Maddie Klidonas off of third and home for the eventual game-winning run. Sammie Torlish drove in the game winner with one out in the frame. The Lions got two hits in their last effort in the seventh but could not get the runner off second to tie the game. Left-fielder Allie Klinowski made a diving save just before the ball toward the left-field line to halt Behrend from scoring the game-tying run. Trotman held Behrend to four hits in the game while striking out four in the complete-game shutout.
