BEHREND'S BUPP, FRANCISCAN'S WEISS NAMED NCAA STATISTICAL CHAMPIONS

Penn State Behrend softball shortstop and pitcher Alexa Bupp has been named the 2017-18 NCAA Division III statistical champion for saves, while Franciscan University's Allyson Weiss earned the same honor for triples per game.

Bupp made 28 appearances in the circle this season for the Lions (32-13) and recorded nine saves, breaking the school record for career saves with 14. Weiss finished the season with seven triples for a Division III-best average of 0.25 per game, while her 1.18 stolen bases per game was second-best. 

Behrend's AJ Nichols finished second in Division III with a 0.82 ERA and D'Youville College's Rylie Russo smacked 0.57 sacrifice hits per game, also putting her in the number two spot nationally. 

Medaille College pitcher Laura Kratzke's 249 strikeouts were fifth-best in Division III.

As a team, Franciscan led the nation with 4.46 stolen bases per game.
