Behrend Softball Sweeps Mt. Aloysius on Senior Day

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team swept Mt. Aloysius 12-11 and 2-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 12, Mt. Aloysius 11
Records: Penn State Behrend (13-11, 7-2 AMCC), Mt. Aloysius (9-9, 2-3 AMCC)

Key Moments:

* Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy) went 5-for-5 with four RBIs, smacking the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh
* With two outs in the seventh, the Lions got back-to-back hits from Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley)
* Manioci hit one down the left side to send in J. McNany for the game winner
* Behrend jumped out to a 5-0 after two innings
* The Mounties scored seven unanswered runs for a 7-5 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth
* The Lions scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead at 11-9
* Mt. Aloysius tied it in the top of the seventh with three hits for two runs
* Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) was the starting pitcher, before making way for Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) and Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva)
* Lindberg tallied her fifth win in the final 2.2 innings pitched
* Jones finished with two doubles and two stolen bases

Game Two: Penn State Behrend 2, Mt. Aloysius 1
Records: Penn State Behrend (14-11, 8-2 AMCC), Mt. Aloysius (9-10, 2-4 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* Senior pitcher Alaina Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) threw her second complete game for her second win this season
* Wyckoff only allowed four hits and one earned run
* Manioci finished the day with a 2-for-3 performance
* The Mounties pushed across a run in the first inning for a 1-0 lead
* The Lions recorded two runs on two hits in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good
* Manioci doubled then scored on Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) reaching on an error
* Salvini scored the second run on another error to make it 2-1

* The Lions return to action on Wednesday at Pitt-Bradford. The AMCC doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
