CLERMONT, Fla. - The Penn State Behrend softball team began the 2024 season with victories over Hiram and Wittenberg to start its Spring break trip.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 6, Hiram 1
Records: Penn State Behrend (1-0), Hiram (0-1)

Key Moments:

* The Lions plated all of their runs in the first two innings against the Terriers
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) drove in Alexia Brown (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) with an RBI triple for the first run of the game. McNany was then hit in on an RBI fielder's choice from Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) in the bottom of the first
* In the second inning, Behrend loaded the bases and senior Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) worked a walk to put the Lions up 3-0
* McNany cleared the bases with two-RBI double, but would thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple
* On the mound, Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) threw a complete game shutout, allowing only one run on one hit and striking out four
* McNany finished 2-for-3 with three runs batted in, while Britney Shaw (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) tallied a pair of singles for the Lions
* Megan Moser recorded the lone hit and RBI for Hiram with a double in the fifth

Game Two: Penn State Behrend 3, Wittenberg 1
Records: Penn State Behrend (1-0), Hiram (0-1)

Key Moments:

* McNany hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning; her first long ball of the season put the Lions out in front early, 2-0
* Sophomore Meghan Pettite (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) delivered a one-out double in the second inning and would eventually score on an RBI groundout from Shaw
* The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Julia Burch
* The Lions were led at the plate by McNany and Pettite with two hits each, while starting pitcher Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) threw a complete game, giving up four hits and strking out nine
* For Wittenberg, starter Kira van Ravensberg allowed two earned runs on five hits, striking out four batters
