Behrend Softball Sweeps Mt. Aloysius in AMCC Opener

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team swept Mt. Aloysius 3-1 and 8-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opener on Sunday.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 3, Mt. Aloysius 1
Records: Penn State Behrend (12-7, 1-0 AMCC), Mt. Aloysius (6-7, 0-1 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* The Behrend Lions scored all three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning
* The Lions began the frame with three straight hits and two stolen bases
* Lead-off hitter Britney Shaw (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) singles and advanced to third on a throwing error on Maria Jones' (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) single
* Jones stole second before Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) hit an RBI single to first base to score Shaw
* Meghan Petitte's (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) ripped a two-RBI single to score McNany and Jones for a 3-0
* Mt. Aloysius got three of its five hits in the seventh to score a run for a 3-1 final
* Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) went 2-for-3 while Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Grove City) tallied a double
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) struck out six batters in the complete game, giving up one run on five hits for her seventh win

Game Two: Penn State Behrend 8, Mt. Aloysius 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (13-7, 2-0 AMCC), Mt. Aloysius (6-8, 0-2 AMCC)   
 
Key Moments: 

* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) threw her second shutout of the season in the six-inning game, allowing just three hits
* Lindberg is two shy of reaching 200 career strikeouts with six on the day
* After a 2-0 lead built in the first inning, McNany got her fourth home run sending a long ball over the fence that scored three runs to make it 5-0
* Behrend added a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to halt the game for the eight-run rule
* McNany, Lexi Edgett (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) and Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) each recorded two hits in the team's 10 overall hits
* Edgett was responsible for one run in the first inning with an RBI single and then a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to knock in Julia Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg)
* Lindberg improves to 6-2 with the win
