Express Baseball Struggles Against Conference-Leading Behrend, Drops 2 Games vs Lions

ERIE, PA - The Express suffered another 2-game skid on Thursday at the hands of the new AMCC leaders Penn State Behrend. Behrend wore down the Express gradually, scoring runs in 9 out of the 12 innings that they spent batting. The steady stream of scoring combined with some excellent pitching led Behrend to take the two matchups by scores of 8-1 and 11-0. 

For the Express in AMCC play, it's been a tale of two different teams. During their home AMCC sets this season, Wells has done an immaculate job defending the turf, outscoring their conference opponents by a total run margin of 31-25 while also racking up 4 wins and just 2 losses. On the road, it's been a completely different story for the Express, as their road woes have caused them to accrue 6 losses in AMCC play. 

The Express mustered 10 hits over the 2 game set, but had their momentum snuffed out by batting themselves into 3 double plays. Had these hits been placed elsewhere, the Express absolutely would have seen more runners cross the plate and allowed themselves to keep up with the constant Behrend barrage. 

Zach Young had a couple good outings, going 3-for-6 and boosting his season average up to .346. 

Max Odum and AJ Campi also kept up their good offensive production, each acquiring 2 base-knocks.

Wells still has life within the AMCC playoff picture and will need a complete effort against Altoona on Sunday. They'll have 1 more chance to cause some mayhem as a visitor in AMCC play against Altoona, before returning home to face Bradford in the final AMCC series of the season. A losing sweep in either series will spell doom for the Express' playoff hopes. However, a sweep in the Express' favor will lead them one step closer to punching their ticket for a shot at postseason glory.
