Behrend Softball Sweeps La Roche Saturday

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team remains undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action, sweeping La Roche on Saturday afternoon. The Lions won 7-0 and 11-2 in six innings.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 7, La Roche 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (17-8, 5-0 AMCC), La Roche (6-15, 1-2 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* The teams battled through four scoreless innings
* Behrend used the final two innings to register seven hits
* Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) had a day with a home run in each game
* Petitte and Jones each had a pair of hits, while Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) was a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) stays out in front in the conference in wins, earning her 10th overall and third shutout
* Tingley allowed three hits and retired 16 straight batters from the second inning to the seventh
* The Lions used three hits and two La Roche errors to score four runs in the fifth
* Behrend got two runs in before Petitte homered to also knock in Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) for a 4-0 lead
* In the sixth, Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) triple and scored on a wild pitch
* Curcio doubled and scored on the throw to home after Alexia Brown's (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) hit
* Brown eventually scored on M. Jones' double for the final 7-0 margin

Game Two:  Penn State Behrend 11, La Roche 2
Records: Penn State Behrend (18-8, 6-0 AMCC), La Roche (6-16, 1-3 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* La Roche equaled its hits total from game one in the first inning to get on the scoreboard for a 2-0 lead
* Petitte's second home run of the day in the bottom of the first was picturesque over the left-field fence to make it 2-1
* The Lions held the Redhawks scoreless for the final six innings
* In the second with bases loaded, Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) had the infield-fly rule in effect to give Behrend its second out but all three runners scored on the play with an error by La Roche for a 4-2 lead
* The Lions had bases loaded in the fourth with two outs
* Britney Shaw (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) reached on a fielders choice and M. Jones singled
* McNany doubled to left field to score Shaw
* Petitte was intentionally walked to load the bases and Lexi Edgett (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) stepped up and ripped a three RBI double to make it 8-2
* Petitte was instrumental in getting three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to halt the game early
* Julia Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) registered a two-run triple to center field to enforce the eight-run rule with only one out
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) struck out five and allowed two runs on seven hits to improve to 8-2 this season
