Redhawks Dominate Game Two In Doubleheader Split With Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – La Roche softball was back on the road Thursday afternoon as it faced Thiel in non-conference, doubleheader action. Game one saw the Tomcats come out on top 7-2, but the Redhawks went for double-digits in game two, winning 10-3.

GAME ONE: Thiel 7 La Roche 2

La Roche was the first to crack the scoreboard, plating both runs in the top of the first.

Makenzie Formeck was the recipient of the RBI, as her ground out brought in not only Emma Bizay, but Maura Wade as well, making it 2-0 out of the box.

It took until the bottom of the third inning for Thiel to score, receiving an RBI single to make it 2-1, then ultimately tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth off a Redhawk error.

The Tomcats solidified game one with a five-run bottom of the sixth to lead to the eventual final score.

Wade got the start in the circle and in five innings allowed four runs (three earned), eight hits, two walks and struck out three.

Kynnydy Lewis pitched an inning of relief, allowing three runs and five hits.

Offensively, La Roche had nine hits, with Bizay (2-for-3), Samantha Dixon (2-for-3) and Wade (2-for-4) all putting together a multi-hit showing.

GAME TWO: La Roche 10 Thiel 3

After a scoreless first inning on both sides, the Redhawks pulled through with three runs in the top of the second to storm ahead.

Cassidee Fitterer's sacrifice fly to score Klover Haberthier plated the first run, then Bizay and Wade followed with back-to-back RBI singles to take a 3-0 lead.

La Roche added two more in the top of the third to up the lead to 5-0, as Jesslyn Daniels bunted in Dixon, followed by Garrah Milochik's RBI single scored Briana Wynn.

The Tomcats only response came in the bottom of the fifth, as a two RBI double and an RBI single of their own cut the edge to 5-3.

The Redhawks got two of those three runs back in the top of the six, when Wade singled in Fitterer, then Dixon doubled in Wade to up the score to 7-3.

La Roche wasn't finished, plating three more runs in the top of the seventh, behind a Bizay two RBI triple scoring Ashlee Bair and Anastacia Jacobs, then a Wade RBI double to bring in Bizay.

In game two, Haberthier pitched a complete game victory, allowing three runs, eight hits, three walks and fanned two.

Offensively, the Redhawks racked up 13 hits, with Wade's 4-for-5 and three RBI leading the charge.

Bizay (2-for-3, three RBI), Dixon (2-for-4) and Milochik (2-for-4) also added multiple hits in the game.

La Roche was originally set to face Waynesburg on Saturday, Mar. 30, but that has since been postponed. The Redhawks now receive a week off and prepare for the AMCC opener as they welcome Penn State Altoona for a home doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 3. First pitch for game one is set for 3 p.m.
