Redhawks Downed By Roos In Season Opener

SHERMAN, Texas – La Roche softball opened its 2024 season in Texas, squaring off against the Austin College Roos. In the end, it was Austin coming away with an 8-0 victory over the Redhawks.

It was a tough season opener for La Roche, as it was going up against an opponent who was playing its 16th game of the season thus far.

The Redhawks had a chance right away to put runs on the board, as the first two batters reached with a single and error, allowing them to stand on second and third. However, three straight outs came to follow, ending the threat

After a quick first two innings, the Roos opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs from a two RBI single to take the lead.

La Roche had another chance in the fourth inning with a runner on third base, but just couldn't get the final 60 feet needed.

Austin closed the book on the contest in the bottom with the sixth, plating six runs, behind a two RBI double, two RBI single and an error that allowed two runs to cross.

Maura Wade took the circle for the Redhawks and across 5.2 innings, allowed five runs, seven hits, four walks and struck out a pair.

Klover Haberthier came in relief of Wade in the bottom of the sixth, allowing three runs, one hit and walked two, unable to record an out.

Offensively, La Roche had four hits, spread out amongst Emma Bizay, Garrah Milochik, Mackenzie Formeck and Jesslyn Daniels.

The Redhawks have two more chances at the Roos, facing Austin in a doubleheader tomorrow, Monday, Mar. 4. Opening pitch for game one is set for 3 p.m.
