BEHREND WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FACES CALVIN IN NCAA FIRST ROUND

The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the campus of Calvin University to take on the Knights (27-3) in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Tournament on Thursday. Time to be determined.

The Lions (22-5) are making their fifth appearance in the 64-team tournament, earning the automatic bid after winning their sixth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship with a 3-0 win over Alfred State on Sunday. Calvin secured its 16th MIAA Tournament title on Saturday, defeating rival No. 5 Hope in five sets.

The No. 6 Calvin Knights will host the eight-team NCAA Regional with other first-round matches including Wittenberg (21-8) vs. St. John Fisher (26-4), No. 24 Otterbein (23-5) vs. Westminster (PA) (22-4) and No. 8 Wisconsin-Whitewater (26-2) and Ithaca (16-13).

Friday’s winners will play in the regional semifinals on Friday with the regional final set for Saturday.

The Behrend Lions and Calvin Knights are meeting for the second time in program history. The Knights defeated the Lions 3-0 on Nov. 14, 2013 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Calvin.
