AMCC WOMEN'S TENNIS FIRST ROUND MATCHES OPEN UP ON SATURDAY

The seeds are set and the AMCC women's tennis teams are ready to open up the 2019 championship tournament, which kicks off this Saturday with first round matches. On Saturday, October 12, #6 Penn State Altoona will travel to #3 Mount Aloysius College, while #5 Pitt-Bradford travels to #4 D'Youville College. #1 Franciscan University and #2 Medaille College each earned first round byes.

Franciscan enters the women's tennis tournament as the top seed after compiling a perfect 8-0 conferene record. The Barons have three players who put together 8-0 records in singles play, including senior Grace Hammel, freshman Estelle Leon, and sophomore Zoey Stapleton. Franciscan has also dominated in doubles play, as Haley Davinsizer and Leon split time between No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to go 8-0 on the season, while four other Baron pairs have also gone undefeated. 

Medaille enters the tournament as the #2 seed with a 6-2 conference record. The Mavs defeated Mount Aloysius, who shares a 6-2 record, earlier in the season to earn the head-to-head tiebreak and a higher seed in the tournament. Junior Miranda Van Hout went 3-0 in singles, as junior Jasmine Mott recorded a 6-2 record in the top singles spot. In doubles play, Hallie Dworzanski and Kristina Hryshchuk led the way for the Mavs with a 4-2 record in the No. 2 spot.

Also with a 6-2 conference record, is Mount Aloysius as the tournament's third seed. Sophomore Payton Whysong recorded an unblemished 8-0 record at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Chloe Love went 7-1 in the top spot. Love and Whysong were also successful paired up, as they went 6-2 in No. 1 doubles. 

#4 D'Youville enters the tournament with a 5-3 conference record. Senior Dena Iadanza led the Spartans with a 5-0 conference record at the No. 3 singles position, while sophomore Lauren Karoglan went 6-1 at No. 1 singles. In doubles play, Julia Clapper and Faith Falkowski went 6-1 in the No. 3 spot.

Pitt-Bradford has earned the #5 seed with a 4-4 record in league play. Junior Jessica Jordan has led the Pathers in singles play with a 7-1 record at the No. 5 spot, while freshman Caroline Hance picked up a 6-1 record at No. 6. Jordan and Hance have also combined to go 6-1 at the No. 3 doubles position.

Rounding out the tournament is #6 Penn State Altoona with a 4-4 record. Junior Sophia Girol has led the Lady Lions in singles play, as she put together a 6-1 record at the No. 4 singles position. Girol teamed up with Victoria Acker to go 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

First round matches will take place on Saturday, October 12. #6 Penn State Altoona will travel to #3 Mount Aloysius, and #5 Pitt-Bradford will take on #4 D'Youville. #1 Franciscan and #2 Medaille will receive first round byes. 

The semifinals and championship matches will be on October 19 and 20 at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, PA. The tournament winner will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. Please visit the AMCC Fall Championships page for full championships coverage.
