SWIM CHAMPIONSHIP FUNDRAISER EARNS $250 FOR GOGGLES FOR GUPPIES

The Chuck a Duck community service event at the AMCC Swimming and Diving Championship this past weekend raised $250 for Googles for Guppies.

The mission of the not-for-profit organization is to help disadvantage children world-wide become water safe.  Since 2011 the e organization has distributed more than $1,000,000 worth of donated new swimsuits, caps and googles.

"'Many of our athletes started their collegiate journey through lessons, so Goggles for Guppies' seemed like the perfect organization for our championship to support," said Jen Wallace, the head swim coach at Penn St. Behrend and host institution of the meet.

"Drowning deaths are at least three-times higher in lower-income countries," noted Wallace.  "Swimming is a sport many youth do not have the opportunity to learn and therefore drowning deaths occur every day.  Goggles for Guppies helps fill that need in so many ways."
