The AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week features Penn State Altoona at Hilbert College. Hilbert (5-8) is currently tied for sixth place in conference standings with Medaille College, while Penn State Altoona (5-9) is in seventh place and is trying to fight their way into the sixth, and final, playoff spot as the postseason tournament approaches.

The Penn State Altoona women’s basketball team has kept its postseason hopes alive by winning four of its past six AMCC games, including a big win over Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday night for the Lions’ fifth conference win of the season. Senior forward/center Alexis Cannistraci has lived up to her status as the conference’s co-Preseason Player of the Year, as she leads the league in points (341), points per game (17.1), and free throw percentage (83.5) while also ranking second in field goals made (130) and free throws made (76) and being third in blocks (26). Freshman guard/forward Ellie Matthews, recently named the ECAC DIII South Region Rookie of the Month for January, is first in the AMCC in defensive rebounds (160), fourth in field goals made (110), total rebounds (193), and blocks (25), and sixth in rebounds per game (9.2). Junior guard Sarah Huston, coming off of a career-high 26-point performance on Wednesday, has also provided a jolt at both ends of the court, ranking third in the conference in steals (55) and fourth in assists (93) while averaging 9.6 points per game.

The Hilbert College women’s basketball team (6-16, 5-8 AMCC) can’t be taken lightly.  The Hawks hustle on defense, fight for every loose ball and rebound at both ends of the floor.  Even with a short bench, coach Nicole Bullock prepares her team for every opponent and the 2021-22 team is eager to battle back into post-season play. PG Ashley Schroeder, the team’s leading scorer (336 points), has been the driving force behind the Hawks’ success.  She is ranked third in the AMCC with 16.0 points a game and first in free throw attempts and makes (46-67) while also averaging 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Forward Macy Kisner has a motor that doesn’t stop as she typically defends in the full court and leads the league with 38 steals while averaging 13.1 points, 10 rebounds and 36.9 minutes per game. The Hawks also rely on guard Alesia Hamm, who, at 5-7, always finds a way to clear the offensive glass.  She ranks first in the league in offensive rebounds and second in minutes per game (38.8) while lifting Hilbert into multiple second-chance points each game.
