EMILY GAWLAK BECOMES HILBERT ALL-TIME SCORING LEADER

EMILY GAWLAK BECOMES HILBERT ALL-TIME SCORING LEADER

Hilbert College senior guard Emily Gawlak became the Hilbert College women's basketball program's all-time scoring leader February 12.

The Buffalo, NY native needed nine points to eclipse 2018 grad Kelsi Ebert who held the previous mark of 1,275 points.

Gawlak led the Hawks to a 74-60 AMCC victory over Pitt-Bradford earning game-high honors in points (22), steals (4) and assists (4). She also added eight defensive rebounds and went 3-of-5 beyond the arc while hitting 7-of-8 at the foul line.

She opened the game converting all three free throw attempts after getting fouled beyond the arc. Gawlak hit a jumper in the paint yet was not able to earn the traditional 3-point play thanks to her solo misfire from the charity stripe.

Nine seconds later, she drained her first 3-pointer of the night, which gave her 1,275 points exactly at 1:34.

During the team's next defensive effort, Gawlak swiped the ball off the Panthers' turnover (1:16) and two seconds later she was fouled again going in for a breakaway lay-up.

Gawlak calmly sank her first free throw which elevated her to the top all by herself and coach Amy Senefelder called a time out so she could celebrate with her teammates, coaches and fans having score 1,276 career points.

As the game progressed, Gawlak began stretching her career totals for that next Hawk to chase.
