HILBERT WOMEN CELEBRATE FIRST AMCC BASKETBALL TITLE IN PROGRAM HISTORY

Hilbert  College is the 2018 AMCC Women’s Basketball champion, defeating Mount Aloysius College, 76-52, at the Hafner Recreation Center on Sunday.  With the win comes the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

The first quarter was a fast moving affair, with the Hawks (21-6) up 16-12 at the end of 10.  The second frame saw Hilbert build an 11 point lead before the Mounties (17-8) could answer with a basket of their own.  The teams traded buckets until Hawks’ forward Ashley Repine put in a pair of quick post-ups to close out the quarter and give Hilbert a 34-22 advantage at the half.

Both teams had the scoring touch to start the third quarter. But the Hawks slowly grew the lead to 20 with under four minutes to go.  By the final buzzer it Hilbert 75, Mount Aloysius 50, and the Hawks had their first AMCC title in the program’s history.

Ebert had the touch both offensively and defensively, finishing the game with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 6 steals.  She was joined in the team effort by Repine who recorded 21 points, 12 boards and 4 blocks.  Taylor Corts not only had the monster assignment of guarding Mounties standout Jessa Wright, holding her to just 10 points, but added 9 points and 8 rebounds of her own.  Wright’s teammate Abby Kulick led Mount Aloysius with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
