BEHREND SOFTBALL ELIMINATED FROM NCAA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

The Penn State Behrend softball team had their season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-1 in the 2022 NCAA Regional Tournament hosted by Trine on Saturday afternoon.

The Blugolds used extra-base hits in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. In the opening frame, Sadie Erickson hit a solo home run to left center. Next inning, back-to-back doubles scored Madi Zerr for a two-run advantage.  The Lions cut the lead to 2-1 after the fifth inning when Samantha Manioci singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kylee BundyEmi Curcio knocked her in with a hit down the left-field line. The Blugolds added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin. 

Zerr picked up the win in the circle, allowing two hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Ashleigh Schmidt suffered the loss with two runs on three hits to finish the season 11-6. Manioci tallied two of the four hits for the Lions on the day.
