BEHREND CLINCHES TOP SEED, HOSTING RIGHTS FOR AMCC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

The AMCC Softball Championship Tournament kicks off this weekend as the top six teams head to No. 1 seed Penn State Behrend to determine the 2022 conference champion. The tournament will begin with No. 3 Mount Aloysius College taking on No. 6 Alfred State College followed by No. 4 Medaille College and No. 5 Pitt-Bradford. Top seed Penn State Behrend and No. 2 Penn State Altoona will then take on the winners of Games one and two. 

Defending AMCC champion Penn State Behrend (14-2) enters the tournament looking for their tenth conference title. The Lions are led offensively by junior C/INF Cami McNany who carries a .412 batting average and 41 RBIs. Freshman 3B Jocelyn McNany tops the conference with four home runs. Senior pitcher Ashleigh Schmidt leads Behrend, and ranks second in the conference, with nine wins in the circle while also recording 64 strikeouts. Schmidt and sophomore Kayla Lindberg are tied for third in the AMCC with a 2.58 ERA.

With a 12-4 conference record, Penn State Altoona has earned the No. 2 seed and will be looking for their third AMCC championship. Freshman INF Gianna Hoppel ranks fifth in the conference with a .433 batting average, while freshman C/3B Brooke Boonie leads her team and ranks second in the conference with three home runs. Freshman pitcher Alyssa Fisher is tied for second in the conference with nine wins, while junior Casey Reese leads the Altoona Lions with 67 strike outs and eight wins from the circle.

Mount Aloysius College, with a 10-6 conference mark, enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed. Freshman infielder Whitney Cole is tops in the conference with a .465 batting average, while her 24 RBIs are tied for fifth. Freshman outfielder Ella Pearson leads the AMCC with 18 stolen bases on the season. Freshman pitcher Traci Hauser's 2.10 ERA leads the conference, while are 72 strikeouts are second-best. Madison Hillard is second behind Hauser with a 2.18 ERA.

Medaille enters the tournament with a 10-6 record in conference play. Sophomore OF/C Shay Sommer leads the Maverick offense with a .336 batting average, while ranking second in the conference with 31 RBIs, and fourth with eight stolen bases. Sophomore pitcher Kaitlyn Alguire boasts a conference-leading 12 wins in the circle, while also carrying a 2.71 ERA and recording 60 strikeouts.

No. 5 Pitt-Bradford is led offensively by sophomore infielder Lexi Peters who carries a .374 batting average with 21 RBIs and 22 runs scored. Freshman Kindra Wessels has recorded six wins in the circle with 42 strikeouts and a 4.38 ERA.

Rounding out the field is Alfred State with a 6-10 conference record. Freshman OF Kaylee Griffith leads the Pioneers, and ranks fourth in the conference, with a .438 batting average.  She leads the AMCC with 46 hits and is second with four triples. Junior OF Sarah Boyce's eight stolen bases are tied for fourth in the league. Senior P Brittany Fisher leads the Pioneers in the circle with seven wins and 56 strikeouts.
