  • 12 AMCC SOFTBALL STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN NFCA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE RECOGNITION

    Twelve softball players from the AMCC were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as scholar-athletes for the 2017-18 academic year. Pitt-Bradford saw a record number of Panthers earn this award with nine, while Franciscan University had three student-athletes recognized.

    Penn State Behrend softball shortstop and pitcher Alexa Bupp has been named the 2017-18 NCAA Division III statistical champion for saves, while Franciscan University's Allyson Weiss earned the same honor for triples per game.

    All institution sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship may select one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-AMCC Sportsmanship Team. These individuals are selected by vote of their teammates.

    Penn St. Behrend junior first baseman Kristen Kargol hit a three-run homer in the second inning to lift No. 4 Penn State Behrend past No. 5 Alvernia in the first round of the 2018 Division III Softball Championships on Wednesday afternoon.

    Mount Aloysius College earned their first-ever AMCC softball conference title when they upset top-seeded Penn State Behrend in the championship game Sunday afternoon. With the conference title under their belts, the Mounties, a four-seed, will now square off against top-seeded St. Mary's College (IN) in the Notre Dame, IN regional on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

    The Penn State Behrend softball team received their eighth overall bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) DIII Softball Championships, announced on Monday afternoon.
  • Hannah Ruby, Mount Aloysius College, Softball - Pitcher

    Ruby helped the Mounties clinch a #3 seed going into playoffs, when at the beginning of the week they had not yet earned a playoff seat. She was almost untouchable in the circle with a 0.76 ERA over 36 innings pitched. Ruby only gave up four earned runs all week while striking out 14. 
  • Courtney Link, Mount Aloysius College, Softball - Player

    Link led the Mounties to their first-ever AMCC softball championship title over the weekend. Link went 17-for-32 (.531), including two extra-base hits, five RBI and 13 runs scored. She recorded at least one hit in all nine games last week, including two three-hit games and only struck out once in 32 plate appearances.

    Day two of the AMCC championships saw three elimination games with D'Youville College, Hilbert College, and Penn State Altoona's seasons coming to a close. Medaille College bounced back from a day one loss, while Mount Aloysius College earned the upset victory over Penn State Behrend to remain as the tournament's only unbeaten team heading into Sunday.

    Kratzke was almost un-hittable last week, going 4-2 and keeping Medaille in the hunt for one of the AMCC top spots. In 35 innings she struck out 35 batters, and gave up just three earned runs on just 16 hits. She ended the week with a 0.77 ERA with opponents hitting just .132 against her at the plate. 
  • Allyson Weiss, Franciscan University, Softball - Player

    Weiss led the Lady Barons to a 3-3 week in conference action as she recorded a hit in four of the six games. The freshman hit .304, stole seven bases without getting caught, and had three extra base hits including a home run, a triple and a double. She scored six runs, drove in 10 RBI, and had a perfect week fielding with 22 putouts and eight assists.

    AMCC softball teams have been battling fierce weather all spring and are entering the final stretch of the regular season. Not only are they trying to get all of their conference gamed played, but they're also trying to rise as high as they can in conference standings as the conference tournament is suddenly in sight. Due to projected weather forecasts and current field conditions, the AMCC softball game of the week between Penn State Altoona and Hilbert College will be played  on the campus of Penn State Behrend Friday afternoon.
  • ALTOONA'S STROUSE AWARDED PITCHER, ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS BY ECAC

    Penn State Altoona softball freshman pitcher Emily Strouse picked up two more weekly awards on Tuesday for her performance in the circle last week, as she was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III South Region Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week.

    Strouse had a sensational week in the circle for the Lady Lions, including recording her first career complete game shutout. Strouse posted a 4-0 record last week with two complete games and one shutout, pitching 29 innings and limiting the opposition to just four earned runs on 25 hits and just four walks. She struck out six batters. Strouse's ERA on the week was a stingy 0.97, and she allowed an opponent batting average of only .229.
  • Laura Kratzke, Medaille College, Softball - Player
    April 23, 2018
    Kratzke was red hot both at the plate in the circle last week. Kratzke ended the week hitting .417 with three home runs, nine RBI and three runs scored. She slugged an incredible 1.167 percent earning a team-best 14 total bases On the mound, she went 4-0 with a 2.16 ERA and struck out an incredible 37 batters. She gave up just six earned runs in the four games, throwing four complete games including a complete game shutout against Pitt Bradford on Sunday. 
  • AJ Nichols, Penn State Behrend, Softball - Pitcher

    Nichols went 4-0 in four appearances, throwing 24 innings and giving up one earned run for a 0.29 ERA. Her four wins also included two shut-out victories and one complete game. She only surrendered nine hits and struck out 24 during the 7-1 week for the Lions. Offensively, Nichols tallied 12 hits, two doubles, seven RBIs and scored 11 runs.
  • Haley Giedroc, Penn State Altoona, Softball - Player
    April 16, 2018
    Giedroc had a big week at the plate for the Lady Lions, helping her team go 2-1-1. In Wednesday's doubleheader split at AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg, she combined to go 5-for-7 with seven RBI, four runs scored, two doubles, two walks, two stolen bases, and one home run. In Thursday's doubleheader at Juniata, she was 1-for-5 with four runs scored, three times hit by pitch, three RBI, two stolen bases, two walks, and another home run. On the week, Haley hit .500 (6-for-12) with 10 RBI, eight runs scored, four walks, four stolen bases, two home runs, and two doubles. Her on-base percentage was .684, and she slugged 1.167.

    Pitt-Bradford sophomore utility player Madison East has been named Fastpitch News Division III Player of the Week, officials announced Tuesday.
  • Alexa Young, La Roche College, Softball - Pitcher

    Young went 2-0 and allowed just one earned run over 12 innings. She threw two complete games, striking out eight, and finishing the week with a 0.58 ERA. Young currently ranks third in the AMCC in wins, strikeouts, and complete games.
