  • FOUR AMCC SOFTBALL PLAYERS GARNER ECAC HONORS

    Penn State Behrend and Penn State Altoona softball each had a pair of standout players receive regional recognition for their performances during the 2016 season, as Behrend's Shannon McDonnell and Sarah Blagg and Altoona's Kate Burge and Clarissa Keller were all selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III South Region All-Star team this week.

    The Penn State Behrend softball team was eliminated from the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships after falling 3-0 to St. John Fisher and 8-0 (five innings) to Rochester on Friday afternoon.

    Penn State Altoona senior catcher Clarissa Keller is the 2016 AMCC Softball Player of the Year.

    Miller only gave up two earned runs for a 0.72 ERA in three wins during the AMCC Tournament. She recorded two shut-out victories, allowing just four hits with no runs against Mt. Aloysius and D'Youville in the championship game. Miller also fanned 10 batters over three games and was named to the All-Tournament team.

    Blagg hit .333 and drove in four key runs to lead the Lions to the AMCC title. In her four hits, she tallied a double and a triple. Against Altoona, she drove in all three runs proving to be the difference in a 3-2 win. Blagg also tallied two hits and scored two of the four runs in the first game against D'Youville.

    AMCC softball teams are gearing up for the AMCC championship tournament, which will be held this weekend, May 6-8 at #1 D'Youville College.
  • Kalie McHenry, D'Youville College, Pitcher of the Week

    McHenry finished the regular season with a 3-1 record and four complete games. McHenry pitched a total of 27.0 innings, striking out 17 and allowing one earned run and finishing the week with a .26 ERA. Against Hilbert on Wednesday, she pitched a complete game shutout, two hitter in game one with eight strikeouts. In game two, McHenry followed up with a one hitter complete game, allowing no earned runs. Not only did she get the job done in the pitching circle, she was dominate at the plate. Over four games, McHenry had five hits, five runs, six RBI, four walks and a home run. In game one against Hilbert, she had two runs, two hits, two walks, four RBI and a homer. Currently, McHenry leads the AMCC in innings pitched, strikeouts, complete games and wins, while she is third in ERA.
  • Lydia Monin, D'Youville College, Player of the Week

    Monin had a career week for the Spartans. In game two against Hilbert on Wednesday, Monin hit her first career home run to go with two hits, two runs, two walks and a double in the team's 10-0 win. In game one against Mount Aloysius on Saturday, Monin scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the third and then hit her second home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth for the go-ahead run in the 2-1 win. Her home run was the 100th hit of her career. In four games, Monin scored five runs with six hits, two doubles, two home runs and five RBI. She had at least an RBI in all four games last week. She also hit .500 over those four games. Monin is currently fourth in the AMCC with 34 runs.

    Penn State Behrend junior catcher/infielder Shannon McDonnell was named the ECAC South Region Player of the Week for the week ending April 24, 2016.
  • AJ Nichols, Penn State Behrend, Pitcher of the Week

    Nichols did not allow one run in three wins in the circle this week. She allowed eight hits and threw two shut-out victories against Pitt-Bradford and La Roche. In 19.2 innings, she struck out 20, including nine in a 2-0 win against the Redhawks. Nichols currently leads the AMCC with a 1.35 ERA.
  • Shannon McDonnell, Penn State Behrend, Player of the Week

    McDonnell led the Lions to an 8-0 week, batting .654 behind 17 hits and 16 RBI. She only struck out once in 26 at-bats and smacked four doubles and two triples. She hit perfect games in three contests, including a 4-for-4 performance with four RBI in game one against Mt. Aloysius. McDonnell currently leads the AMCC with 27 RBI.

    Penn State Altoona softball (20-6, 10-0 AMCC) hosts fellow undefeated conference foe D’Youville College (16-8, 10-0 AMCC) this Sunday, April 24 for a showdown at Stewart Athletic Field.

    McHenry went 5-0 last week, pitching five complete games. In a total of 35.0 innings, McHenry allowed a total of eight earned runs for a 1.60 ERA. She also racked up 33 strikeouts. McHenry is first in the AMCC in strikeouts (131) and complete games (18) while is second in ERA (1.89), wins (14) and games started (18). At the plate, she continued her standout offensive season hitting .538, including seven hits with four runs and one RBI.
  • Clarissa Keller, Penn State Altoona, Player of the Week

    Keller had another big week at the plate to help Penn State Altoona go 4-0 in AMCC play, recording three multi-hit games along the way. In a doubleheader sweep at La Roche, she combined to go 4-for-8 with a double, a run scored, and three stolen bases. In another doubleheader sweep at Hilbert, Keller batted 7-for-9 with two doubles, a triple, four RBI, six runs scored, and two steals. On the week, she hit .647 (11-for-17) with 10 runs scored, four RBI, three doubles, one triple, and five steals.

    The Eastern College Athletic Conference on Wednesday announced that Penn State Altoona junior Kate Burge was its Division III South Region Pitcher of the Week.

    Burge surrendered just one hit in two wins over Franciscan on Tuesday, including notching a perfect game. In game one, the junior went three innings and gave up one hit while striking out three for the victory. In game two, Kate pitched her second career perfect game, going all five innings and striking out eight batters along the way. On the week, she pitched eight innings, gave up only one hit, recorded 11 strikeouts, while not allowing a run. Burge currently leads the AMCC with 12 wins and a a 1.47 ERA.
  • Kara Sainato, La Roche College, Player of the Week

    Sainato was terrific in the Redhawks' two-game sweep at Pitt-Greensburg. She hit .500 on the day and drove in six runs. She scored four times, homered and tripled.

    Mount Aloysius College head softball coach Carl Teeter recently hit a coaching milestone as the Mounties ninth-year coach won his 200th game last week in a non-conference doubleheader against Geneva College.
