    Penn State Altoona softball earned an Eastern College Athletic Conference title for the first time in program history on Sunday afternoon when it defeated Bethany College 8-0 in the ECAC Division III South Region Championship at Bison Field.

    No. 5 Penn State Altoona softball posted wins over No. 1 Bethany College and No. 2 Misericordia University during Saturday's Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Region Tournament Semifinals at Bison Field to advance to the championship on Sunday.

    The Penn State Behrend softball team will travel to Alfred, NY for the NCAA Regional on May 8-10. The Lions (25-14) will face Rowan (36-6) in the first round on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

    Miller pitched five games this week, picking up two straight wins in the AMCC Championship games. She pitched 17 innings on Sunday and struck out 10 batters to lead the Lions to the AMCC title. She only allowed seven earned runs in all five games, finishing with a 1.40 ERA for the week.
  • MacKenzie Kehlenbeck, D'Youville College, Player of the Week

    Kehlenbeck was the main source of offense for the Spartans over the weekend in the AMCC Playoffs. Kehlenbeck hit her fifth homerun of the season and had four RBI to lead the team. Her .375 average also led the team. In the team's win over Penn State Behrend on Saturday, the shortstop's two-run homerun in the second inning gave the team a 2-0 lead. On Sunday, the junior drove in the only runs in game one and drove in the go-ahead run in game two, until the bottom of the inning when the Lions scored the game-tying and game-winning runs.

    McHenry continued her dominance of the AMCC this past week by recording another perfect week with a 4-0 record. In four games, McHenry allowed two runs in 25 innings pitched for a 0.28 ERA, dropping her overall to a conference leading ERA to 1.10. In her four wins, McHenry pitched a complete game in all of them, with two of them coming against Penn St. Altoona, the second overall team in the conference. With the wins over the Lions, D'Youville clinched the #1 seed in the conference and the right to host the AMCC conference tournament this weekend. The junior currently leads the AMCC in wins, complete games, innings pitched, ERA and is second in strikeouts. Offensively this past week, McHenry recorded a hit and scored a run in three games.
  • Allania Banta, Penn St. Behrend, Player of the Week

    Banta hit .529 in a 6-0 week for the Lions. She smacked nine hits, including two doubles a triple and a home run to amass eight RBIs. She also scored 11 runs and had a .571 on base percentage. Against Mt. Aloysius in game one, she had two of the team's five hits.

  • Kalie McHenry, D'Youville College, Pitcher of the Week

    McHenry went 5-1 in six games last week. In the two games she started against Penn St. Behrend, McHenry pitched back-to-back complete games, going 10 innings in game one and eight innings in game two. Over the weekend, the junior pitched in all four games, winning all four. In her 43 innings pitched, McHenry recorded 38 strikeouts while only allowing five earned runs, for a 0.81 ERA. McHenry leads the AMCC with 15 wins and a 1.26 ERA and is second with 113 strikeouts.
  • Sarah Giebel, Pitt-Greensburg, Player of the Week

    Giebel proved to be a tough out for Pitt-Greensburg in a 7-2 week. The junior left fielder hit .517 on 15 hits in 29 at bats while also filling up the stat sheet. She'd tally three doubles and a triple with 12 runs scored, 10 RBIs, and three stolen bases while posting a .588 on base percentage. Geibel is second in the AMCC with 10 stolen bases.
  • AMCC SOFTBALL GAME OF THE WEEK: D'YOUVILLE AT MOUNT ALOYSIUS

    The AMCC Softball Game of Week features two teams battling for the top spots in conference seeding. Mt. Aloysius (17-11, 9-3 AMCC) enters the game fourth in the AMCC, while D'Youville (15-7, 8-2 AMCC) is in second place. Last season, the Mounties swept the series 3-0.

    McHenry picked up five wins, including four straight over the weekend. McHenry pitched 28.1 innings, including three complete games and allowed 11 runs for an ERA of 2.72. The junior's 1.51 ERA and 10 wins are both tops in the AMCC and Kalie ranks second in strikeouts with 75. Kalie also got the job done at the plate, getting six hits and scoring six runs while driving in three runs and earning five walks.

    Kehlenbeck had a power surge over the weekend to lead the Spartans offense. In eight games this week, MacKenzie hit .478 with 11 hits, eight runs and 13 RBIs. Against Pitt-Bradford on Sunday, Kehlenbeck accounted for two home runs, six RBIs, four hits and two runs. In the team's second game again La Roche on Saturday, the shortstop hit two triples, scored two runs and had three hits and hit 1.000. Her 1.130 slugging percentage led the team for the week.

    Miller went 2-0 in the circle this week, getting wins against Pitt-Bradford and Altoona. She gave up just five earned runs and struck out 10 in her two appearances. She pitched 15.1 innings, 10 of which were in a 2-1 victory against defending AMCC Champions Altoona. Miller is currently second in the AMCC with 1.84 ERA, third in strikeouts with 50, and fifth with five wins.
  • Morgan Russo, Pitt-Greensburg, Player of the Week

    Russo had an outstanding offensive week for the Bobcats, hitting .529 over six games. Russo would tally nine hits, including a home run and three doubles, pick up two walks, and compile five RBIs and six runs scored, while also posting a .579 on base percentage.

    McHenry turned in another impressive week for the D'Youville Spartans. In Clermont, FL for the team's spring training, McHenry pitched in three games, which were all complete games. In those three games, McHenry had a 2-1 record and allowed only one earned run. The junior showed her dominance by striking out a season high 12 batters against Lawrence. At the plate, McHenry also go the job done by hitting .308 over the four games, with a .357 on base percentage. She also had two RBI, four hits, one double and one triple. McHenry leads the AMCC with a 0.64 ERA.
  • Shaina Bunker, Medaille College, Player of the Week
    March 29, 2015
    Bunker had a huge week for the Lady Mavs. She hit .833 and slugged 1.667. She had 10 hits, four extra-base-hits, three home runs and 14 RBIs. The junior also scored seven runs. Bunker is second in the AMCC in both RBIs (23) and home runs (4).

    The first AMCC Softball Game of the Week for 2015 features the Medaille Mavericks and La Roche Redhawks. According to the 2015 Coaches Preseason Poll, the two teams were picked to finish in seventh and eighth places.

    McHenry started three games, pitching seven-inning complete games in all of them. In two of her starts, McHenry allowed no runs and earned shutout wins in those two games. In her only loss, McHenry allowed three runs. For those three games, the junior struck out a combined 21 batters, for an average of one batter per inning.
  • Lydia Monin, D'Youville College, Player of the Week
    March 23, 2015
    Monin hit .500 (8-16), including two doubles, and one stolen base, in six games last week. She reached base safely in the first five games. Monin is currently tied for first on the team in runs (4) and doubles (3), leads the team in hits (8), batting average (.500), on base percentage (.556), slugging percentage (.688) and total bases (11). Her .500 average on the season puts her fourth in the AMCC.
