The Penn State Behrend men’s volleyball team will battle St. Vincent and Geneva on Sunday in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) tri-match in Latrobe, Pa. The Lions battle the Bearcats at 1 p.m. followed by the Golden Tornadoes at 3 p.m. for the AMCC Match of the Week.

The Behrend Lions are tied with Hiram College for first in the AMCC with a 3-0 conference mark. The Lions have swept eight of the last nine opponents for a 9-4 overall record. Last week, Adrian Martinez had double-digit digs in three of the four wins for the Lions. Martinez averaged 4.08 digs per set and a season-high 20 digs in a 3-0 win over Thiel, while also adding seven assists. Martinez leads the conference in digs with 135. Last time out, Behrend defeated Thiel and Mt. Aloysius, 3-0. The Lions are ranked second in the AMCC in kills (501), digs (497) and blocks (77), while ranking third in service aces (85)

The Geneva men’s volleyball team comes into Saturday playing its best volleyball of the season, riding a three-match winning streak.  On Wednesday the Golden Tornadoes traveled to Thiel and prevailed in five sets behind brothers Byron and Emerson Spear.  Byron had a career-high 15 kills to lead the Geneva attack, while Emerson finished with 10 blocks to lead the defensive effort. Peter Barbato leads the AMCC with 147 kills and 3.34 kills per set, while Carter Milroy and Emerson Spear are first and second in blocks with 0.94 and 0.90 blocks per set, respectively. Geneva’s 1.97 blocks per set are tops in the AMCC.
