CASTILLO, CASSANO NAMED TO 2021 ALL-REGION TEAM

The United Soccer Coaches announced the All-Region teams for the 2021 season, naming Medaille College freshman Ander Castillo and Penn State Behrend sophomore Andrew Cassano as second team selections within region seven.

Castillo was tabbed as the AMCC Newcomer and Offensive Player of the Year in his first season with the Mavs. He recorded a total of 25 goals and three assists, earning him 53 points. He took 132 shots with 52 on goal. Out of his 25 goals, seven of them were game-winners. Castillo had his best game of the season against AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford, as he took a season-high of eight shots, scoring three goals. He had 12 games where he scored multiple times. Castillo went on a six game scoring streak throughout the month of October, ending the season as the top goal scorer in the AMCC.

Cassano was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Defensive Player of the Year as well as a first team All-Conference selection earlier this month following a strong showing to help the Lions claim the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. Behrend led the AMCC in multiple statistical categories on the defensive side with Cassano anchoring the back line. The Lions led the conference in goals against (2) as well as goals against average (0.25) against conference opponents. Offensiviely, he chipped in with two goals and an assist in conference action for a total of five points and was named AMCC Defensive Player of the Week on October 25.
